Galloup Named #2 Mid-Size Workplace in Michigan

November 17th, 2011

For the past three years, Galloup has ranked in the top ten of the Detroit Free Press Top Workplaces. To determine Top Workplaces, the Detroit Free Press partners with WorkplaceDynamics to confidentially survey the opinions of employees from hundreds of companies throughout the state. This year Galloup placed #2 in the Midsize class (151-500 employee).

Not to brag, but this puts us ahead of Google!  (Their Ann Arbor location ranked #5 in the same class)

See the complete listing here.  Bonus: Some Galloup employees made it into the Top Workplaces photo gallery (slides 29-32).

Summary statement. J.O. Galloup, a Michigan-owned distributor of piping and instrument products, has been recognized as one of the Top Workplaces in Michigan for the fourth consecutive year by the Detroit Free Press

About Top Workplaces. The Detroit Free Press has partnered with WorkplaceDynamics to determine Top Workplaces in Michigan. To determine Top Workplaces, WorkplaceDynamics confidentially surveys the opinions of employees. This year, they surveyed more than 100,000 employees from over 1000 companies. Companies were separated by size: Small (150 or fewer), Midsize (151-500); and Large (500+). This year, Galloup placed #2 in the Midsize class.

Quotes from Galloup people: Galloup President Rick Waters spends a lot of time on the warehouse floors of Galloup locations, and knows every one of his 228 employees by name. “You have more feet on concrete than you do on carpet,” Waters said. “You’ve got to be out amongst everyone.”

Galloup holds annual meetings, on-site lunches and holiday parties. Just before Labor Day, employees got surprise $50 gift cards. “We feel more like a family than ever,” said Inside Sales Manager Linda Quail, who has worked in the Warren office for 33 years.

“Sometimes people say you are a number in a large company, but not here,” says Warren site manager Dean Maxwell. “A lot of warehouse people I hire say they never heard of a president who comes to the back and is interested in what they have to say. We have great leadership.”

Rapid Installation Pivot-bolt Couplings from Grinnell

September 19th, 2011

Tired of soldering?

The Grinnell Figure 640 Pivot-Bolt Rigid Coupling is a more efficient, reliable way to join rolled grooved, hard-drawn copper tubing. The 640 securely grips the entire circumference of a copper tube groove, and yet installs in less than half the time of other standard grooved couplings.

How It Works:

1) Push On the Gasket

2) Swing the coupling over

3) Tighten one nut (that’s right – just one!)

For more information, check out Grinnell’s illustrated brochure here.

Casting Quality Matters

September 13th, 2011

Casting. It’s a hot topic these days with potentially severe process ramifications. Conformance to standards is no longer a reliable proof of quality. When only the minimum requirements are met, actual performance may still fall far short of expectations. Many problems hide beneath the surface unseen. And the standards don’t uncover them.

Below is a video put together by Metso, maker of Jamesbury valves. In a world of global sourcing, you need to find a valve resource you can trust. Galloup is proud to offer Metso, whose commitment to casting quality and delivering higher levels of reliability are leading the industry. You can also find a detailed treatment of this topic from Valve Magazine here.
